Shaq’s New Job?
CNBC’s Darren Rovell is reporting that one of basketball’s greatest characters, Shaquille O’Neal, is going to work for Turner Broadcasting. O’Neal is reportedly going to be the newest member on TNT’s hit pre and post game show “Inside the NBA.” Turner Broadcasting has not confirmed that any deal has been made yet but rumors continue to swirl. If and when O’Neal joins “Inside the NBA,” the already popular show will presumably reach enormous new heights. Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal alone are entertaining enough to carry a show on their backs, but can you imagine if they were both working on the same set? It would be a basketball fans dream. Though, O’Neal’s potential hiring doesn’t go without some turbulence among the already star-studded and well-constructed “Inside the NBA” cast.
The “Inside the NBA” cast features host Ernie “EJ” Johnson, main basketball analyst Kenny “The Jet” Smith, the always rambunctious “Sir” Charles Barkley, and newest member Chris “C-Webb” Webber. The potential hiring of Shaq or “The Big AARP” probably means that Webber would have his role on the show diminished in some form or fashion moving forward. In my opinion, C-Webb is the best basketball analyst on the show. He breaks down plays and game sequences with more knowledge and detail than anyone else on the show, and a diminished role would only cripple the show’s informational basketball integrity. Webber also works as an analyst for NBA TV, but his shows on that station are definitely not as widely consumed as TNT.
Again, reports have not yet been confirmed, and there is no way of knowing what role O’Neal will have or when he will begin his post-NBA career as an analyst. All I know is that O’Neal is going to be on television soon, and that’s a good thing for everyone.
