Carlos Beltran on the Move?

It’s not official yet but multiple reports from a variety of sources, including Sports Illustrated’s Jon Heyman, Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports, and Pro Football Talk’s Greg Calcaterra are being informed that the New York Mets are very, very close to trading away outfielder Carlos Beltran. The Mets and San Francisco Giants are involved in intense trade talks for the switch-hitting 34-year old.

The developing trade centers around Giants top pitching prospect Zach Wheeler. The 21-year old right-hander was the 6th overall pick in the 2009 MLB Draft. Wheeler is 7-5 with an ERA under 4.00 and 98 strikeouts in 88.0 innings pitched thus for the San Jose Giants (class A+).

The Mets are in Cincinnati tonight for a scheduled 7:05 start, but don’t be surprised if Beltran is not in the lineup as the deal could be finalized sometime today.
